My art, like for many artists, is my outlet. It comes from loss, from choices made, from love gained, or love lost, from my life circumstances, or from the life circumstances of those around me and close to me. It is how I cope. It is how I move on. It is how I speak, when I cannot find the words.
Someone once told me that I build ties to people. Soul to soul, heart to heart. I build relationships, whether long, or just for a short time, I build ties that truly bind in a way that many people find inexplicable. It is in these relationships where my pieces come to life. When I am close to someone, their life experience can affect me on a very emotional or spiritual level - it is from there that a new piece of work can be created.
While many associate death with sadness and mourning, “The Visitation” speaks to those last weeks, the closing days; or the final moments of life...the work explores what people feel as their final breath steps closer. I believe that there are entities coming to guide the souls of our loved ones in those final moments, some will see spirit, others, who are in a darker place may not see spirit, but I believe it to be there. Waiting. A knowing that we are never alone, from birth to death, someone is waiting for you, watching you and loving you, both in life and in the world beyond.
